The Center offers a standard of excellence in its comprehensive services to adult patients with sickle cell disease and other hemoglobinopathies throughout North Carolina.
The Center's activities include medical services, educational services, basic and clinical research, screening and testing, psychosocial services, and community outreach. The Center's staff is dedicated to finding better treatments for sickle cell disease. Therefore the center conducts both clinical research and basic scientific research to help discover and prove the usefulness of new ways of treating sickle cell disease and its complications.

 
 
Dr. Laura M. De Castro

directs the clinical services for the adults.

For the benefit of our patients and to facilitate research efforts, the center collaboratively works with the North Carolina Sickle Cell Syndrome Program as well as with community-based centers, such as operation sickle cell in Fayetteville, NC, and the Sickle Anemia foundation of the Piedmont in Greensboro, NC.
