Welcome to the

Duke-UNC Comprehensive Sickle Cell Center

We are happy to inform you that once again Duke and UNC have collaborated to become one of the ten centers that are to receive a National Institute of Health (NIH) 5-year grant to conduct research and to provide diagnosis, counseling, medical care and education for Sickle Cell Disease and related disorders.

Principal Investigator: Marilyn J. Telen, MD

The NIH began to implement the center grant in the 1970s to foster and carry out basic, translational, and clinical research, to
support career development of young investigators in sickle cell disease research, to develop state-of-the art patient service materials and assist in coordination of evidence-based state-wide activities, and to provide to our pediatric and adult patients clinical care, while offering patients the opportunity to participate in ongoing research.
